Board of Trustees Co-President Keiko Kiyama Appointed as New Member of UN’s Central Emergency Response Fund

On 19 September 2016, Keiko Kiyama, Co-President of the Board of Trustees of Japan Emergency NGO (JEN), was appointed by the UN Secretary-General as a new member of the Advisory Group of the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF), the UN’s global emergency response fund.

CERF is a fast and effective way of pooling contributions from governments, companies, and other donors and distributing it to areas affected by major natural disasters or armed conflict. The Fund also responds to areas that are forgotten, neglected, or ignored but continue to face long-term strife. The new Advisory Group is made up of 18 specialists from various fields that will be working together to advise the UN Secretary-General on how to best use the fund based on his or her expertise and background.

Keiko’s duties on the Advisory Group begin following the Advisory Group meeting that takes place in end-October of this year, and she pledges work towards streamlining UN’s humanitarian aid efforts and delivering aid to areas that require emergency relief.
