On August 24th and the 25th, 2013, JEN will recruit volunteers to clean up beaches, side ditches and weed at Tsukiura on the Oshika Peninsula as reconstruction assistance. Tshukinoura is well known as a port where Japanese senior envoy to Europe in the Keicho era led by Tsunenaga Hasekura, a feudatory to Sendai Domain, put out to sea aboard San Juan Bautista, a tall ship, and ventured across the Pacific Ocean 400 years ago in order to launch trade negotiations with Spain.
